College Preparation

The ACT and SAT

Almost all colleges and universities require an applicant to take the ACT or SAT. Generally, these examinations are taken in the student's junior or senior year of high school. These tests are instrumental in determining the colleges that will admit you and the scholarships for which you might qualify. Fortunately, there is a way that you can ensure that you will do well on these tests! The best way to do so is to master vocabulary. Moreover, there are excellent web sites that can materially assist you. Some sites you might find helpful are:

College Visits

In the near future many of you will be going on college tours. The link below will take you to an article that appeared in the New York Times. Life has many different perspectives. The "official" college tour offers an abundance of good information. However, another valuable source are students not formally associated with the recruitment process. When you tour a college campus whenever possible, speak to students who are not associated with the college's "public face". You will find them at the college cafeterias and restaurants and at the "work out" areas. These students will provide you an additional perspective that will augment the "official" perspective of the college.
